The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team had an impressive 3-0 road win against East Central, led by freshmen Tehillah Ndhlovu who had two goals on Saturday, Sept. 21.

With the win the Lions now have four shutouts so far and an improved record of 3-1-1 while the Tigers falls to 2-4.

It was not until freshman player Ndhlovu came into the game that the Lions could take a 1-0 lead. Ndhlovu came in the 34th minute, and off an assist from Leslie Campuzano she found the back of the net in the 39th minute.

The half ended with the score being 1-0 and Jen Peters had four saves.

Starting the second half the Lions dominated the Tigers, they controlled the ball and earned several conner kicks.

Ndhlovu was able to score her second goal making the score 2-0 in the 70th minute. With everything going the Lions way, nine minutes later Kasey Sorbers scored off a corner kick from Campuzano making the score 3-0.

Ndhlovu finished with two goals and two out of the three of her shots were on target. The Lions had a total of 19 shots compared to the Tigers 10.

According to Lion Athletics, head coach Neil Piper had some comments about the win.

It was another good win on the road. We had some contributions from some different players today and that really helped. The game was stale until we scored a fortunate goal late in the half. That changed the march and we took more control of the second half.” said Piper.

A&M-Commerce midfielder Cora Welch has been named the Under Armour Student-Athlete of the Week by Lion Athletics.

A&M-Commerce goalkeeper Jen Peters was named the Lone Star Conference women’s soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. It is the second time this season Peters has won the award.
