LIONS TAKE DOWN ANGELO STATE

The Lions volleyball team recorded a hard-fought opening set win over Angelo State, dropped the second, then took control for the remaining two sets for a 3-1 win over ASU in Lone Star Conference play.

With the score tied at 22-22, Amy Davault had three consecutive kills to end the first set, and give the Lions  25-22 win.

Angelo State came back in the second set to take a 25-15 win, but after that, it was all A&M-Commerce with Taryn Driver, Ashley Mireles, Davault, Sydney Reyes, Neka Nelson, Hannah Dykstra, Courtney Tate and Delanee Clark providing solid play to pace the Lions to third and fourth set wins at 25-12 and 25-17 respectively.

For the day, Davault led the Lions with 14 kills and 14 digs, Tate finished with 26 assists, Dykstra had 16. Also sparking the Lions was Mireles with 28 digs while Driver and Reyes added four blocks each.

LIONS FALL TO TARLETON

The Lions dropped three tough sets to Tarleton (25-16, 29-27, 25-23) but not without giving the TexAnns all they could handle.

It was Davault, Driver and Clark leading the Lions in the first set but the TexAnns put together a scoring rally that was too much to overcome.

The second and third sets were different stories as the Lions followed the play of Davault, Dykstra, Veronika Baric, Clark, Tate and Mireles to keep the TexAnns on the ropes.
