The Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions come in at No. 8 in the most recent NFCA Coaches Poll. The Lions jump up from 10th after a three-game sweep over Texas Woman’s, and have won 11 straight games. Three teams from the Lone Star Conference are in the top-10 (A&M-Kingsville, WT-A&M, TAMUC).

The Lions will head to Stephenville this weekend for a three-game series against the Tarleton State Texanns, who come into this weekend ranked No. 21 in the nation with a 30-9 (14-7 LSC). No. 9 A&M-Commerce comes into the series 33-9 (19-5 LSC).

Last season the Lions played the Texanns three times in the regular season and three times in the postseason, taking five out of the six games. The Lions eliminated Tarleton State in the South-Central Regional Championship last year at Colorado-Mesa. The two teams had plenty of back and forth trash talking during and after the games during the six affairs. It is safe to say these two teams do not like each other.

The Lions will have their work cut-out this weekend against a solid Tarleton State squad. A&M-Commerce sits in second place in the LSC, one game ahead of West Texas A&M, and one game behind conference leader Texas A&M-Kingsville. WT hosts Texas Woman’s this weekend out in Canyon, while Kingsville travels to Angelo State this weekend.
