The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team is still fighting for their postseason lives after going 1-1 on senior week at the field house. The Lions picked up a big win on Thursday versus Eastern New Mexico 62-55 and fell to West Texas A&M 71-60 on Saturday for Senior Day. The Lions are currently 17-9 overall and 12-6 in the Lone Star Conference. The Lions are also one spot out of the regional rankings at No. 9. The top eight teams make the postseason in the South Central Region.

The win versus Eastern New Mexico was huge for the Lions as the Greyhounds are currently ahead of the Lions in the LSC and the regional rankings. The Greyhounds did not have a good weekend as they lost to A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State. The Greyhounds still have a tough remaining couple of games as they head to Canyon to play WT tomorrow night and travel to Denton to play Texas Woman’s on Saturday.

A win on Saturday versus No. 17 West Texas A&M for the Lions probably would have put the Lions in the top eight in the region, but that did not happen. The Lions played a fantastic game and only trailed 50-49 going into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Buffs were too much to handle the final few minutes of the game. The Lions went cold the last few minutes and the Lady Buffs

made their free throws to ice the game.

The Lions are very much so still alive to make the postseason. A little help from teams ahead of the Lions would be huge, but the Lions can still play their way into the tournament with two wins against UT-Permian Basin and Western New Mexico to close the regular season and a solid Lone Star Conference Tournament performance.
