The A&M-Commerce men’s golf team concluded their fall season with a championship title as senior Wilfredo Sanchez picked up his first individual tournament win Oct. 31 at The Classic at Firewheel in Garland.

Sanchez paved the way for the Lions finishing on top with a final score of 218 (73-68-77, +2).

“It felt good to finally get that first individual win,” Sanchez said. “I feel that this semester I played pretty good in every tournament, but I couldn’t close out. I had the lead after 36 holes and finally I played good enough to win by one stroke.”

Sanchez was tied for the lead after the first couple of rounds but had just enough to win the tournament by one stroke.

Junior Lucas McCubbin placed sixth with a score of 224 (69-79-76, +8), and Senior Nick Louy snuck in the top 10 coming in at ninth place shooting 226 (73-77-76, +10).

Rounding out the Lions were Sophomore Blake Hartford who shot 227 (74-71-82, +11) and Sophomore Joe Wolcik (78-71-84, +17).

This is the Lions second tournament won this season out of four they have played, and the Lions have placed no worse than fourth this fall.

The Lions open up their spring season at the Rattler Invitational in San Antonio February 19-20.
