BREAKING: Lions Football Pushed Back to Friday Night

One of the most anticipated season openers in many years for the no. 5 A&M-Commerce Lions football team has been delayed 24 hours due to threats of inclement weather.

Originally scheduled to start tonight at 6 p.m., the game with no.6 North Alabama will instead kick-off tomorrow at the same time. The decision was announced earlier this morning by both schools.

“We appreciate the collaborative efforts of UNA and their first-class administration and coaching staff,” said A&M-Commerce director of athletics Tim McMurray. “Our communication and mutual interest in protecting our student-athletes and fans made this challenging process much easier.”

Weather in the area caused by now tropical depression Harvey is predicted to be severe, with heavy rain, lightning, as well as possible tornadoes in the forecast. Player safety as well as the safety of fans is the highest concern, and with the weather predicted to clear up Friday afternoon, the move means another day of anticipation for the season’s return.

A game preview will be up tomorrow as well as additional coverage of other Lions sports. You can also keep up with scoring updates on our social media throughout the game tomorrow night.
