Cross Country Conference Honors Athletes

The Lone Star Conference recognizes individual athletes in various sports for their performance during the week throughout their season. The Texas A&M University – Commerce men’s cross country team has a 3 time winner in just 3 chances already this year.
Turner Pool has been named the Lone Star Conference Runner of the Week 3 times already this season in just 3 chances to win the award. “It was an honor to be named LSC male Runner of the Week 3 times this year, it really goes to show that if you put in the work and trust your coaches, success will follow.,” Pool said. Pool is a junior for the men’s cross country team and has competed in indoor and outdoor events for the team; he’s also had four top three finishes in his career at Texas A&M University – Commerce.
On the women’s side, Terra Truitt was named the Lone Star Conference Runner of the Week once this season back in September. The win came in a 5k course race in a time of 18:45.3, the fastest 5k time in the LSC by 28 seconds. “It was really nice to get this recognition for Female Runner of the Week, I’ve never been recognized for anything in my four years here so this was a great honor,” Truitt said.
Terra Truitt is a senior in her last season as a member of women’s cross country team. She has set career best in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track. Her proudest moment came in 2015 at the Lone Star Conference Championship where she ran a 22:45.8 in the 6k. That qualified here for the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championships, where she finished 38th. “If I win the individual LSC title this year at the LSC Conference Championship, it’ll be my proudest moment by far.” Said Terra Truitt .
“Terra has worked extremely hard to get ready for her final cross country season. She has her goals set to get the individual LSC title, and her training and performances are starting to make that goal attainable,” Head Coach Ross Smithey said.
“Turner is running very well for us right now. We expect him to continue to have the success he’s had this season and be one of the top runners at the LSC Cross Country Championships,” he also added.
In the LSC Cross Country Championships, Pool finished fourth, and Truitt finished sixth.
