Greek Life is a large part of our campus here at Texas A&M University-Commerce and this semester it has doubled in size this due to high enrollment.

“It is has been talked about adding a fifth sorority to our campus because of the high sign up rates this year, we are just working on the retention now.” Zach Shirley, Director of Greek Life, said.

The numbers were staggering for both men and women, men coming in with 78 and the women 106, signing up for recruitment this year.

“Helping with recruitment and being president this fall recruitment was very stressful, I think some of my hair fell out, but it was definitely rewarding and worth every minute.” Gina DeAngelis, Gamma Phi Beta President, said.

This year is an adjustment for all the sororities on campus due to the large numbers in the new members’ classes.

“Going through recruitment was not something I was looking forward to, my friend forced me to go, but it turned out that the whole experience really opened my eyes to the Greek community.” Ellie, a Chi Omega new member, said.

There are many staff here on campus that are Greek as well that have come back to campus to work and still help with Greek life.

“From the top down people genuinely care about the Greek experience,” Shirley said. “I see it in the hard work everyone puts in from the people in my department to the Greeks themselves.”
